MiaPrep Online High School is seeking a Secondary ASL Teacher for a fully remote, asynchronous teaching role. Teachers at MOHS do not create lesson plans or deliver live classes. Instead, they guide students through a self-paced curriculum on MiaPrep.com, providing coaching, small-group tutoring, and in-depth feedback on summative assignments.
Instruction and Grading
Core instructional responsibilities include becoming familiar with the structured student learning path — which encompasses lesson videos, guided practice worksheets, and ASL assessments — and evaluating student video submissions using provided rubrics. Teachers are expected to:
- Evaluate expressive video assignments and comprehension tasks using provided grading rubrics to ensure consistency and alignment with curriculum goals
- Deliver clear, supportive, and accurate written feedback that helps students reflect, revise, and develop their ASL skills, referencing lesson content where appropriate
- Host weekly virtual group tutoring sessions — one or more times per week — to clarify curriculum concepts, address student questions, and provide additional support on ASL topics and assignments
Academic Advising
In addition to instructional duties, each teacher maintains an academic advising caseload of up to 20 students. This includes:
- Conducting quarterly check-ins with each advisee
- Identifying struggling students and, together with Academic Counselors and Student Support Specialists, proactively providing tiered support solutions to enhance academic performance
- Serving as the primary point of contact for parents and students on academic matters within the subject area
School Culture and Additional Responsibilities
Teachers are expected to participate actively in school initiatives, contribute to the creation and implementation of school-wide academic policies, and lead or contribute to an extracurricular club or activity. All MOHS staff are designated mandated reporters and are required to respond to student safety and mental health concerns in accordance with MOHS Crisis Response protocols. This includes completing required training and, when appropriate, administering the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and following all documentation and escalation procedures.
Schedule
The position requires 40 hours of availability per week on a year-round basis. Availability between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, in a U.S. time zone — Eastern, Central, Mountain, or Pacific — is required for office hours, student meetings, and other school activities. A significant portion of the work, such as grading, can be completed outside of those hours.
Qualifications and Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of classroom ASL teaching experience, preferably at the high school or ASL 1 level
- Strong fluency in ASL of ten or more years
- Understanding of Deaf culture
- Proficiency in written English communication for student and parent support
- Ability to review and assess student videos using provided rubrics
- Confidence using pre-made materials and lesson plans
- Professional experience supporting students in secondary education within the last five years
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Tech proficiency with platforms such as gradebooks, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, and Google Suite
- Proficiency in, or willingness to learn, the responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency in the education sector
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching certification in ASL, World Languages, or Deaf Education
- Familiarity with ACTFL standards or proficiency-based ASL instruction
- Experience with online or hybrid instruction
- Comfort with tools such as Google Docs, Zoom, and LMS platforms
Online teaching experience is noted as advantageous but is not required.

Teachers at MOHS work an average of 40 hours per week, which when working year-round equates to an annualized pay range of approximately $55,328 to $77,750. Miaplaza’s compensation philosophy is designed to ensure equity and competitiveness while accounting for regional differences in living and labor costs. Specific rates are provided during the hiring process and are aligned with market data and internal equity. Compensation is evaluated twice per year based on performance, with teachers’ compensation determined first and foremost by performance and impact.

- FSA and HSA access
- 401(k) retirement plan with employer match
- Parental leave and additional perks and benefits

- Free site memberships and discounted MOHS tuition for children in the employee’s household, plus two additional memberships for other children in their lives
Career Growth and Company Culture
MOHS teachers are expected to actively participate in school initiatives and contribute to the creation and implementation of school-wide academic policies. Teachers are also expected to lead or contribute to an extracurricular club or activity that aligns with their expertise or passion, and to uphold and contribute to the school’s positive culture and values among both faculty and the student body.
The posting describes an expectation that teachers be willing to speak up when things can be improved and to step up when a need is identified or support is required within the school community.
Compensation is reviewed twice per year, with performance and impact identified as the primary basis for individual compensation levels and adjustments.
